How to become tutor at Cuemath
A friend once told me: "Try Cuemath, it is excellent." My first reaction was—sounds like another MLM scheme. But as someone who was already teaching Maths and Physics offline, I was curious. When I actually researched it, I found a legitimate company founded by IIT Bangalore alumni that pays teachers Rs. 20,000-40,000 per month. I was very wrong about my initial skepticism.
What Cuemath Actually Is
Cuemath is a structured math learning programme serving students from Class 1 to Class 10. The company recruits teachers, provides complete training, delivers a full curriculum, and brings students directly to you. Your only job is — to teach well.
Unlike UrbanPro where you independently manage everything, Cuemath gives you a ready-made system. Think of it like a franchise model — you deliver a quality branded service, and the company handles all the backend work.
The Eligibility Test — The Honest Truth
I will be upfront — joining Cuemath is not easy. There is an eligibility test that evaluates two things:
- Arithmetic (percentages, fractions, ratios)
- Algebra (linear equations, quadratics)
- Geometry (triangles, circles, coordinate geometry)
- Data interpretation
- Problem-solving approach
- Ability to explain concepts clearly
- Student engagement techniques
I scored 68% on my first attempt — the cutoff was 70%. Yes, I failed the first time!
To prepare for the second attempt, I: 1. Revised NCERT Math textbooks from Classes 6 to 10 2. Practised Cuemath's free sample questions thoroughly 3. Rehearsed explaining my problem-solving approach clearly out loud
Second attempt: 82%. Selected.
The Training Phase
After selection, there is a 2-week online training programme. Honestly, it is incredibly valuable — you learn how Cuemath's teaching philosophy differs from conventional schooling. The core focus is on conceptual understanding, not rote memorisation.
After training, you deliver a demo class to a Cuemath evaluator. It feels nerve-wracking, but solid preparation makes it very manageable.
Real Earnings Breakdown
Cuemath teachers earn on a per student per month basis:
- Per student: Rs. 1,500-2,500/month (after Cuemath's cut)
- 5 students: Rs. 7,500-12,500/month
- 15 students: Rs. 22,500-37,500/month
- Top performers (20+ students): Rs. 40,000+/month
I personally work with 12 students — that is Rs. 28,000/month of reliable income, around 3 hours of daily work, from home, on my own schedule.
Cuemath vs Wiingy — Which Pays More?
Wiingy is a newer platform focused on international students — you can earn $20-50/hr there. If your English is strong and teaching internationally appeals to you, Wiingy is definitely worth exploring.
That said, Cuemath is the better starting point if you want a steady, managed student base without having to do outreach yourself.
Application Tips
Cuemath's application form includes a "Teaching Philosophy" section. Do not write something generic. Here is what I wrote:
""I believe every child has a natural curiosity for mathematics — we just need to find the right language to explain it. Cuemath's visual and conceptual approach does exactly that.""
Specific, authentic — and it clearly resonated with their evaluators.
